HSC Science

Biology – Chemistry – Physics

The Preliminary (Year 11) and HSC (Year 12) science curricula are conducted based on the requirements of the NSW syllabus. At Alpha Omega, we ensure that all content and skills specified in the syllabus are presented in a way that allows students to appreciate the relationships and links between concepts. Our objective is to ensure that students have proper conceptual understanding of scientific content which allows them to apply their knowledge to a variety of situations.

Our classes incorporate school problems, revision of previously learnt material, together with learning of new materials. Content is delivered in a manner that is engaging, challenging, and appealing to the needs of students. The use of relevant and everyday examples of concepts that are learnt in our lessons help students set the study of sciences into broader contexts allowing them to deal with real life problems. Moreover, concepts are taught in a coherent and logical order, assisting students in recognising the flow and the links between learning outcomes. Students are also prepared and exposed to many HSC style questions and are provided with constant advice pertaining to the techniques and strategies required to excel in such questions.

Scientific skills are essential to a student’s success in HSC Science. At Alpha Omega, we focus on catering for skills such as:

  • Thinking scientifically
  • Problem solving techniques
  • The experimental method
  • Research skills
  • Communicating science – literacy in science

Science is an ever-changing discipline and requires constant revision. Our lessons are reviewed every year to ensure they contain the most recent updates from the scientific community. This allows for a more comprehensive and most up-to-date learning experience for our students.
