High School English
The Board of Studies maintains the belief that the curriculum is set out with the intention to ‘prepare all students for effective, responsible participation in their society’.
At Alpha Omega Education we tend to agree that an obvious and meaningful outcome of learning High School English, should be that students become more confident with interacting with the people and environment around them.
How does High School English Evolve from Primary English?
In adherence with the Board Of Studies syllabus or curriculum and our own high educational standards, High School English at Alpha Omega expands from the elementary areas of literacy including reading, comprehending, listening, and writing to the more advanced, interpretive, analytical, imaginative and expressive elements of English.
Alpha’s Role in Expanding English Horizons
The English department at Alpha Omega Education take the view that English is about the rich variety of text, and the exciting exploration of language and context.
Our High School English Programmes are divided into two distinct areas of study:
1. Written English
This involves the understanding of text structure, word choice, punctuation and imagery.
This involves the manipulation of pitch, volume and tone to evoke emotion or create imagery, and the mastering of oration through rhythm, length of sentences, word choice and non-verbal aids (e.g. hand gestures).
Both areas directly or indirectly involve critical thinking, drawing upon representations, deriving meaning, sharing and justifying ideas, and communicating; all of which are elements of everyday societal life.
Paying Attention to Detail: Helping Individuals
As with all of our tutoring, our High School English tutoring is designed to assist students who have difficulty or advance those who are otherwise competent.
Our courses start with an assessment of student competencies, allowing for special and often individualised attention for students across their areas of need or concern.
